POSITION SUMMARY
The Safety and Health Manager has the overall accountability of the safety and health team and for workers compensation laws, OSHA, ADA and HIPPA regulations compliance.  Administrator safety and health programs to eliminate or reduce the associated costs of illness and injury and promote the maintenance of employee health and safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Manage safety and health nurses, review procedures, ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA and HIPPA throughout the medical systems.  Complete noise levels throughout the plant annually.  Encourage health and wellness programs.  Provide quality health care for employees to reduce workers compensation costs.
  2. Workers Compensation: Monitor and review accident investigation reports and ensure appropriate follow up; participate in claim reviews, mediations, and hearings; review workers compensation costs and monitor claims.  Provide quality health care to employees to reduce workers compensation costs, absenteeism, and turnover.
  3. Administer, monitor and audit safety and health programs to ensure OSHA compliance.  Complete annual review on each program.  Assist with injury/illness prevention and correction.
  4. Serve a s resource for Performance Safety and Health Teams.  Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations.
  5. Resolution of Problems.  Troubleshoot of problematic operations and/or ongoing situations which are unacceptable.
  6. Training of the occupational health nurse staff.  Along with training of production employees and management staff.  Training is required by OSHA and other governing bodies for the nursing staff to ensure skill maintenance and enhancement.  Additional training of employee is required to ensure understanding and knowledge of their health and safety.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the specified plant.
Carries out managerial/supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and at least 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bilingual skills desirable: speak, read, write and address groups, individuals, conduct investigations, counseling, training, mentoring using language other than English -- as applicable to the Business Unit.
Good decision making skills and ability to perform in stressful situations.
Detail oriented.
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, and workers' compensation processes.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Knowledge of Database software; Human Resource systems; Internet software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Travel up to 10-15% of the time.

Recruiter looking for strong safety professionals for six permanent positions in the following areas: Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, Indiana, Louisiana and New Mexico. Job Description:

  • Apply, implement and maintain safety and health programs.
  • Conduct and document accident and incident investigations for all safety related events.
  • Facilitate meetings that focus on specific safety, health, and compliance issues.
  • Enforce company safety policies and procedures, and serve as a technical safety advisor.
  • Conduct pre-start up and safety reviews and participate in PSM Committee meetings.
  • Perform periodic safety and health risk assessments and compliance audits to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis.
  • Promote and verify use of the company's safe work practices by both employees and contractors performing work at facilities.
  • Schedule ERT and Emergency Response Drills.
  • Recognize unsafe conditions, environmental or health hazards and take necessary steps to protect the public, employees or contractors and the environment.
  • Ensure the company remains in compliance with all oil and government agencies to include review of pending and upcoming changes.
  • Assist with safety budgeting, cost/benefit analysis, cost control, etc.
  • Monitor and evaluate the Safety and Health Program, DOT Safety and provide management status reports and risk potential for DOT Intervention.
